So the teaser was finally released yesterday, and has set the stage for our expectations of the new film. Up until now we had seen only glimpses, stills and interviews, nothing truly allowed us to see or feel the ambiance of the film. Peter Jackson is very clearly presenting this film as "the ultimate ending" of the Middle-Earth saga, as he calls it. He opens it up after all with Pipin's song from "The Return of the King", along with Bilbo's commentary about how he will remember "everything that happened, the good, the bad, those who survived and those who didn't". He's clearly referencing the red book of Westmarch. So what now, this is the last Middle-Earth film that could be made, does it seem that he will pull it off ? While the second Hobbit was a dissapointement, the first was quite enjoyable, and seeing how the last installement of the trilogy will have Smaug's attack on Lake-Town, the siege of Erebor, the battle of five armies and what seems to be ice fighting ? How could he fail it ? The question is how amazing will it be. Ask anyone about the "lord of the rings" film trilogy, and they will most likely remember Pellenor fields, or Mount Doom. It's always the conclusion which delivers the best experience for most, and seeing how he is concluding the "Middle-Earth Saga", PJ is going to have to deliver mountains.
But What do we know ? Not much quite frankly, the onering.net had made a list of "stuff to expect" from the third opus, but it seems to have dissapeared, we got a lot of stills, but they only really confuse me (in the one above we see Bard facing Smaug with his bow, but isn't he supposed to fire the black arrow form a Dwarvish windlance ?). Still, we have seen, through the release of social media banners and icons as well as in the trailer, the return of the focus on the eponymous "Hobbit". As a matter of fact I didn't even see characters such as Tauriel that were highly criticised. It seems to be mainly Bard-Thorin-Bilbo and a bit of gandalf. Perhaps a return to it's roots ? As in the source material.
